This is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position supporting a grant-funded research project led by Dr Federico Rossi (University of Warwick). The position does not require any teaching, but individuals will have the opportunity to apply for temporary teaching in the Department of Economics if desired. The post is expected to start in Summer 2025 (exact date flexible) and is initially for 1 year, with the possibility to renew it for a second year.

The position is suitable for someone having completed or close to completing a PhD in Economics or related fields, with a particular focus on topics at the intersection of macroeconomics, development and growth. The successful candidate will have a strong background in data analysis as well as modelling and computational methods.

The project, funded by an ERC/UKRI Starting Grant 2023, is titled “Human Capital, the Organization of Production and Economic Development”. The aim of the project is to leverage micro-level data from multiple countries and novel theoretical frameworks to shed light on how the accumulation and utilization of different types of skills is shaped by and can facilitate the adaptation to some of the most pressing challenges faced by the global economy: population ageing, climate change, and the reallocation of workers across economic activities.

The successful applicant will be expected to work jointly with the Principal Investigator on projects related to the themes of the grant, as well as to develop their own autonomous research agenda. Excellent academic mentoring will be offered alongside opportunities to attend conferences related to the project.

The Department of Economics has become widely regarded as one of the top economics department in the UK and Europe. We consistently rank highly in leading UK and international subject league tables and are currently ranked 1st in the Good University Guide 2024. The Department provides a lively teaching and research environment and has recently been ranked 2nd in the Research Excellence Framework (2021). The department has a large MSc cohort and a highly reputable MRes-PhD programme. The appointed candidate will have the chance to interact with PhD students, postdocs and faculty in the department. The University of Warwick offers a whole host of training opportunities both internally and externally. There will be significant opportunity for the successful candidate to learn new skills.
